Superintendent of Schools Appointment
The Livingstone Range School Division No. 68 Board of Trustees is pleased to announce that Mr. Darryl Seguin has been appointed as the Superintendent of Schools and Chief Executive Officer effective December 20, 2018.
Mr. Seguin’s appointment follows a Canada-wide search process that invoked significant interest and high quality applications. In preparation for this search process, the Board surveyed students, parents, staff and community members to gain their views on the challenges and opportunities presented to a new superintendent and the leadership characteristics and competencies required to fulfil the role of Superintendent/CEO. The Board used this data to form the ideal candidate profile, develop interview questions and make the final selection.
In making its decision, the Board believed it was important to select a leader who would inspire a shared vision for rural education, build strong relationships with schools and communities and who has demonstrated results in achieving success for all students.
“The Ideal Candidate Profile emphasized a knowledgeable, collaborative and innovative leader who is passionate about meeting the needs of each student, has a strong focus on collaboration and shared decision-making, and the capacity to develop the leadership potential of others,” stated Board Chair Brad Toone. “Throughout his career with LRSD, Darryl has proven his leadership and commitment to our students, and we are fortunate to have someone of his caliber.”
Mr. Seguin has 25 years of experience in education as a classroom teacher, assistant principal, principal, associate superintendent and deputy superintendent. He has been serving as Acting Superintendent of LRSD since October 2017. His career spans four school divisions throughout Alberta. Mr. Seguin’s success in education is demonstrated by his ability to increase student achievement as well as student, staff and parent satisfaction levels. His passion for learning combined with his broad experience in both teaching and administration will guide the division on its continued path to success.
“I am honoured to be selected to this important leadership role and look forward to working closely with the Board of Trustees to achieve its mandate. I welcome the opportunity to collaboratively work with, and serve, the students, staff and communities of LRSD in providing quality education for our students”.—Darryl Seguin
Mr. Seguin attended the University of Lethbridge, obtaining both a Bachelor of Education (1993) with distinction, and a Master of Education (2003) in Educational Leadership and Administration and he recently obtained a Human Resources Management Certificate from the University of Calgary (2017).
Mr. Seguin was born in northwestern Ontario and graduated from high school in Sparwood, British Columbia. This past summer he and his wife Stacy celebrated 28 years of marriage. They have three sons, ages 25, 22 and 20, all graduates of Willow Creek Composite High School in Claresholm.
