Livingstone Range School Division (LRSD) is pleased to announce that construction is officially underway for Nanton’s new elementary school. To mark this special milestone, LRSD hosted a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, September 18, 2025. School Board Trustees were joined by representatives of the Town of Nanton, M.D. of Ranchland, M.D. of Willow Creek to mark the occasion. Students from A.B. Daley Community school and J.T. Foster High School participated in the ceremony.
“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I want to thank everyone who has worked on the Nanton Schools Project to get us to this celebratory day,” said Lori Hodges, Board of Trustees Chair. “Our students in Nanton deserve schools that enhance the excellent teaching and learning already happening. We can’t wait to see the possibilities that await our young students in this new school.”
The new elementary school is part of the Nanton Schools Project that includes a modernized high school. The prime contractor for both projects is Shunda Consulting & Construction Management Ltd. During construction Nanton preschool through Grade 12 students are in classrooms in J.T. Foster High School, as well as the Nanton United Church for Grade 5/6 classes. At this time, the project completion date for both the new elementary and modernized high school is summer 2027.
“With stakeholder input, the architects for the new elementary school project have designed a welcoming, bright, and very functional building that will help students thrive,” says Superintendent Sean Beaton. “The new school, with its large gymnasium and Learning Commons will become a true hub of the Nanton community.”
