Host an International Student
Posted onEach year, Livingstone Range School Division welcomes high school students from around the world to study in and discover one of the most beautiful places in Canada: southwestern Alberta.
"We're looking for Homestay Families to open their homes and hearts to an international young person," says Chad Kuzyk, Associate Superintendent of Curriculum & Innovation. "The benefits to your family and the student are amazing."
Homestay Families provide a separate bedroom, meals, and some transportation. They include the student in their regular activities, celebrate holidays, and provide opportunities to explore Alberta's landscape and history. At the same time, the international student attends the local high school, shares their culture, strengthens their English language skills, and experiences Canadian hospitality.
Monthly compensation of $750 is provided for Homestay Families to offset the costs of hosting a student. International student terms vary from a semester to an entire year, offering flexibility for hosting.
"Our international student program is very popular with students from around the world," Chad says. "And it works so well because of our excellent Homestay Families."
A free virtual information session is scheduled for Wednesday, June 16 at 7pm. This session will provide details about hosting a student in your home, and an opportunity to ask further questions about being a Homestay Family. Anyone in the Livingstone Range School Division jurisdiction is invited to attend!
