Nanton Schools Advisory Committee Update - January 2024

Posted on

The Nanton Schools Advisory Committee, consisting of Livingstone Range School Division (LRSD) Administration and Trustees, Town of Nanton Council members, the Municipal District of Willow Creek, and the Municipal District of Ranchland met on January 22, 2024.

We are currently in the design phase of the New and Modernized Nanton Schools project. The Advisory Committee reviewed draft architectural design plans for both schools. The designs include proposed enhancements funded by the Nanton School Enhancement Committee. The new elementary school is anticipated to be built between the current A.B. Daley Community School and J.T. Foster High School, with a connected parking lot and an intentional flow between the new and modernized buildings.

Both schools’ proposed designs include an entrance, gathering area, bathrooms, gymnasium, and learning commons space that can be accessed easily when the rest of the school is closed off. The elementary school design also includes an enhanced learning commons with amphitheatre-style seating, while the high school design has a commercial kitchen that opens up to the gathering area. Both schools are designed with the natural and community surroundings in mind.

We will host a public engagement session on Thursday, February 8, 2024 from 6 to 8 pm at A.B. Daley Community School. Stakeholders can view designs for the new elementary school and modernized high school and provide feedback. If provincial funding is approved as anticipated, construction will begin in mid-2025.

The Nanton School Advisory Committee continues to explore options for decanting (temporary relocation during construction) within the community. The next Committee meeting will be held on February 27, 2024. For project information and a visual timeline of the New and Modernized Nanton Schools visit www.lrsd.ca/nantonschools
