Northback Presents Cheque for LRSD Nutrition Program

Posted on

Students at Livingstone School in Lundbreck were treated to breakfast by Northback Holdings Corporation today as the company's CEO Mike Young presented Livingstone Range School Division with a cheque for $75,000 for its nutrition program. This assembly event comes after an announcement on February 5, 2024 that Nortback would make this generous donation.

"This day really started with students who saw a need in their school," says Chad Kuzyk, Associate Superintendent of Curriculum and Innovation, who accepted the check on behalf of the Division. "Livingstone School grade 6 student Raegan Lazzarotto noticed that some of her classmates were coming to school hungry or didn't have a lunch because of food insecurity at home. She talked to her mom, Daina, who works for Northback and the company really stepped up to help students through our nutrition program."

Trustee Clara Yagos spoke at the event, thanking Northback and saying, "This contribution from Northback will help fuel the bodies and minds of an additional 1,000 students in the seven schools that do not receive extra grant dollars. One of those schools that will now receive nutrition funding is Livingstone School!"

Sharing a personal experience when she worked with a not-for-profit organization, Livingstone-Macleod MLA Chelsae Petrovic said, "Part of that work was feeding children like yourselves. I think it is so important that all students have proper nutrition and full bellies so you can come to school and learn."

Speaking to the entire school gathered in the gymnasium, Northback CEO Mike Young said, "We often underestimate the impact of a seemingly simple yet essential element: a nutritious breakfast. By supporting the LRSD Nutrition program, we are not merely providing a meal; we are investing in the future of our children."

Today each student enjoyed yogurt, fruit, and cereal bars handed out by Northback staff. Livingstone Range School Division is grateful for community partnerships like this one with Northback that focus on benefitting 'Every student, every day.'
